Story of the Coat of Arms

Below and right: some random but interesting photos from our Local History Collection

Lola Simkins and Charles Martin holding a School Sports Shield, year unknown at this time.

The same School Sports Plaque as on the left, with no date, but we know this is the Swifts Creek school.
Lola Simkin, possibly the same year or a little younger, is third row down from the back and second from
left with Charles Martin another two further along and the row behind.

School Sports shield from the 1930's. This is "above the gap" the area does not include
Swifts Creek, Ensay etc.

circa 1907-8 an example of poles being erected between Powers Gully near Tongio West and the Victoria Falls
hydro electric plant on the Cobungra River. It was taking power to run the Cassilis Gold Mining Co. treatment plant
which had run out of wood for the boilers. This was Victoria's first commercial hydro scheme and began operating
in 1908. T the plant which was beautifully built and perfectly operational had an
insufficient supply of water. Most of the plant went to Mt Magnet in Tasmania. see below.
